Brian Hersh – Host of The Mezz

The Mezz with host Brian Hersh debuts Saturday January 14th, 2012 on WSRQ 1220 AM and 106.9 FM.

Sarasota Talk Radio is launching a brand new show, The Mezz, devoted to covering the diverse and prolific arts scene in Sarasota/Manatee. The show will begin airing on Saturday, January 14 at 1pm. Brian Hersh, host of The Mezz, aptly named for his favorite spot to view live performances, will interview various performing and fine artists including Dwight Currie, Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Programs at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art; Michael Donald Edwards, Producing Artistic Director at Asolo Repertory Theatre; and Elizabeth Bergmann, retired Director of Dance and Lecturer of Dramatic Arts at Harvard University.

No stranger to the arts and Sarasota, Hersh is currently the Education & Outreach Director for Asolo Repertory Theatre where he carries out his mantra: breaking down barriers and building bridges – making the arts accessible for all.

“I hope to help audiences discover more about the artists who contribute to Sarasota’s vibrant arts scene,” says Hersh. “Together, let’s learn more about what inspires them and, in turn, inspires us. We want to amplify the amazing artistic work happening in our community, because it is an essential part of where we live and work.”

Before arriving in Sarasota, Hersh served as Assistant Director of Visitor Services at the world’s leading performing arts center, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. There, he oversaw the Meet-the-Artist program and School Series. He also worked with a variety of styles and artists including opera, jazz, ballet, Broadway, chamber music, world music, and Shakespearean theatre. While in New York City, Hersh also played drums in epic rock bands and accompanied singer/songwriters in landmark venues such as: Arlene’s Grocery, CB’s 313 Gallery, Continental, and Don’t Tell Mama.
